The two proposals, a new vehicle ferry crossing at Gallions Reach and a new road tunnel at Silvertown, could be open by 2017 and 2021 respectively if funding is found and planning permission is granted.

Boris Johnson was on the Peninsula this morning to see plans for 1,300 new homes and 600 student dwellings which could be built later this year.

The North Intermediate Tower in the Royal Docks is the first of three being built to carry a cable car across the Thames. It is over 200ft tall and weighs 270 tonnes, but will be smallest of the three.

The Peninsula Festival is planned for land close to The O2 before and during the Games, with up to 45,000 people expected to attend on some days. Live music and extended drinking hours are on the agenda, as well as a campsite for festival-goers to use.

The £50million link from the Royal Docks to the Greenwich Peninsula is one Mayor of London Boris Johnson has personally pushed through, despite the absence of promised private investment.

Construction of the passenger stations on both sides of the river has started, with piles being driven deep into the ground to support the foundations. The scheme, which will cost at least £56million could be finished in time for the 2012 Olympics.

Sean Collins, managing director and co-founder of the company, hopes to introduce the service to link up with a new development at St George's Wharf, much further west than current commuter links.

Geoff Symonds helped write the planning application for The O2 as a consultant, and has been AEG Europe's head of transport strategy for more than two years.

The entertainment company this week submitted its planning application for the four star 450-bedroom hotel to Greenwich Council. The proposed development also includes adjoining serviced apartments and a large event space.

While the original Dome was much maligned it did mark the beginning of major private investment in the region.

Previously, the tongue of land had held another vast container - a gas holder believed to be the largest in the world on a massive gas works.

The land housing The O2 has been bought today for £24million by Trinity College, Cambridge.

The college announced the purchase of the 999-year lease from Quintain and Lend Lease this morning, although the deal will have no bearing on The O2 itself.

O2web.gifThe O2 is not up for sale. That's the message coming from AEG, who operate the entertainment venue, following reports over the weekend the site had been put up for sale.


Lend Lease and Quintain Estates, who own the leasehold of the site, are apparently looking to sell their interest for around £35million.

00mar13prop1.jpgAnother part of the huge Greenwich Peninsula regeneration has fallen into place.

Greenwich Council has approved a scheme for 207 homes occupying a prominent plot on the 190-acre development site – one of London’s largest regeneration projects.

Over the next 15 years the area will see 10,000 new homes, the creation of 24,000 permanent jobs, a new business district, leisure facilities, parks and open spaces.
