How did you get into your career...? Lured away from law school into teaching I went on to earn a master’s in public policy and then relocated from the US to help further develop the programme at Teach First.
Tell us a secret...? I can rap all of the lyrics to Sir Mix-A-Lot’s Baby Got Back.
Where do you buy your coffee...? I’m not much of a coffee drinker.
What’s your favourite place in the Wharf...? As a Californian I love taking a break near the Wharf whether that’s down by the Thames or near the fountain in Cabot Square. It’s all good.
What’s the best thing about the Wharf…? The events televised on the summer screen are great, provided the weather is good. Also, the shopping of course.

How did you get into your career...? My mum works for the Racing Post and found the job opening for me, but I did the rest.
Tell us a secret...? I love Britney Spears almost as much as my boyfriend.
Where do you buy your coffee...? Coffee, eurgh. I prefer a cold Red Bull for my caffeine fix.
Best thing about Canary Wharf...? It has to be the bar scene, the best thing after a tough week is a drink with work mates.

What are you plugging...? I’m plugging the Wickerman Festival – Scotland’s best kept musical secret.
Why...? Despite beating Glastonbury to an award for the best grass roots festival last year, it remains largely unknown south of the border. It has a 24-hour licence so the music and activities are pretty much round the clock from July 25 to July 27.
There’s more...? Yes. I’m keen to hear some familiar accents up there this year so I’m giving readers of The Wharf the opportunity to win a pair of free tickets. How did you get into your career...? While working at Virgin Megastore on Oxford Street I organised a couple of staff parties. Before long it was my full time job.
Where do you buy your coffee...? I generally get coffee beans from Waitrose, then go home, get the papers and spend time relaxing.
Tell us a secret...? I know the numbers of all the cheesy pop songs on my local’s juke box.
Best thing about Canary Wharf...? The mixt of the ultra-modern and the ultra-trendy with the old East End.
And the worst…? The growing road congestion.

How did you get into your career...? I trained then got a job through a pilot friend I knew.
Tell us a secret...? I can eat three chocolate bars in one day.

This is Amy Giles – one of the fittest girls in Canary Wharf.
The 27-year-old works at the Power Studio at 41 Millharbour, where she’s had Wharfers flocking in for power plate training sessions.
Amy originally studied to be a dancer but a back injury meant she couldn’t pursue that career, so she retrained as a power plate instructor.
Dancing’s loss is the fitness world’s gain and Amy, who hails from Tunbridge Wells, is a big fan of the device that’s revolutionised the way we keep fit.
“I love using the power plate,� she said. “It’s a great way to keep fit if you’re pushed for time, but the benefits are as good as spending hours in the gym.�

MEET one of Trinity Mirror's all-seeing soldiers, Piotr Tokarz.
The strapping security officer is based in One Canada Square and looks out for hundreds of Trinity Mirror employees.
He moved to London from Poland three years ago, and has rubbed shoulders with many a celeb destined for The Daily Mirror's 3am Desk.
Piotr, 27, said: "I met Alesha Dixon the other day, she seemed nice. I didn't know who she was at the time though.
"I know a lot of the Trinity Mirror journalists. They might not know me though. We know everything that's going on here, it's our job."
Piotr lives in Stratford and has an advertising business degree. He enjoys watching films and using the Trinity Mirror gym on floor 21.

MEET Mr fix it Tom Barczyszyn, who has been getting Wharfers back in the saddle again for the last two years.
Tom, who is originally from Poland, works as a mechanic at the South Colonnade branch of Evans.
The 25-year-old lives in Camberwell and enjoys cycling around London in his spare time and partying with friends.
He's bracing himself for a rush of women in the store on May 29 , when it holds a Ladies Night, a free evening of bike demonstrations, advice, giveaways and champagne.

SMOULDERING Spaniard George Higueras is getting used to Wharf life.
The 29-year-old recently started working in new Cabot Place West store Cross, selling luxury pens, bags and accessories.
George is originally from Barcelona, but moved here two years ago with his English wife. He plans to return to Spanish shores this summer for a holiday.
He lives in Brixton, and is definitely not loving his Tube journey to and from work.
George said: "I was expecting it to be a lot easier to get here. I wish they would sort out the Jubilee line."

WHARF GODDESS Haseena Wazir is a new face among the mall’s retailers.
The 21-year-old is a supervisor at A Gift from the Gods, a quirky fashion boutique that opened recently in Canada Square.
Haseena used to work in the store’s other branch in Bromley, and is slowly getting used to Canary Wharf life. She has been exploring the shops and bars down on West India Quay.
The Bromley resident said: “It’s crazy here, it gets so busy with the lunchtime rush. Which is a good thing.�

SAY hello to this week’s Face, Limehouse resident Richard Baker.
The 30-year-old grew up in Essex and scored a top degree in aircraft engineering before landing a job at an investment bank in the City.
He’s done a fair amount of travelling in his time and has just returned from a trip to Australia where he celebrated a friend’s wedding and sat around in hot tubs drinking beer.
Richard is a lifelong Tottenham Hotspur fan, who also plays football for his pub team, snowboards and enjoys eating out.

PILATES pro Karen Hall has been helping Wharfers get in shape and limber up for the last year.
Karen runs sessions at the Exceptional Health centre, off Marsh Wall, teaching pilates to anyone from pregnant women to serious golfers wanting to improve their swing.
She’s a familiar face at Sweaty Betty in Cabot Place, where she holds sessions every Wednesday.
She also writes for fitness magazines and is training to run a half marathon later this year.
Karen likes jazz music and even plays the trumpet in a friend’s band. She’s a fan of the great outdoors and spent the weekend digging at her family’s allotment.

Lancashire native Sian Owen is spending two weeks learning the ropes from the Daily Mirror’s online team at One Canada Square.
Sian returned to her home county last year for an MA in online journalism at Preston’s University of Central Lancashire after seven years in London.
She’s a big fan of music, and has been spotted singing and playing the keyboard in alt-country and folk bands. Sian’s latest idea is Gig in a Flat, a series of secret acoustic gigs held in living rooms.

Originally from Bangladesh, the 22-year-old is an all-round cricketer, and used to play in the top league at home.
Ahmed is a big fan of Bollywood cinema and when he’s not studying or dishing up burgers to hungry Wharfers he enjoys heading out to explore London.

But, chances are, you’ve met him already.
Red is co-owner of Bene Bene and Kruger and has been dishing out food and drinks to Wharfers for the last seven years.
Red is happily married to wife Violet – so it’s good to know those colours go well together. He has three children and likes to spend his spare time with them.
He often works seven days a week in Canary Wharf, serving up his bestsellers of full English breakfasts and steaks.

THIS week’s face is blonde bombshell Natalie Pester, who gave a career in dancing the chop to become a hairdresser.
The 22-year-old is a stylist at Canada Place salon Toni and Guy, where she has been trimming and styling Wharf barnets since last October.
Natalie used to compete in modern dance and ballet competitions when she was younger.
But she now keeps fit in a completely different way, taking part in kickboxing classes at her gym.

Our face of the week is shining star David Peralta, who is settling into married life.
David, who works for James Shoe Care in Canary Wharf, tied the knot with his girlfriend Anna Zieba just last Thursday.
The 29-year-old met her while visiting London for a concert – and is living proof that persistence pays off.
“I met her in a restaurant after going to the Royal Albert Hall. I put my email address on the bill, but she didn’t contact me when I got back to Mexico. But I kept the receipt from the meal with the restaurant details on it and called her instead and we kept in touch. I moved to London to be with her.�
David can be found working in Cabot Place, underneath the escalators, for James Shoe Care, which is celebrating operating in the Wharf for 10 years.

SAY hello to the Museum in Docklands’ website wonderwoman.
Art and history journalist Sara Wajid manages the Untold London site, which works with London museums
to record the history of the city’s races, communities and faiths.
Ethical and gay issues are the two hot historical topics Sara is passionate about, and she recently collaborated with the West India Quay museum on its Sugar and Slavery exhibition and the Outside Edge display, which charts black gay culture.
Super-fit Sara recently completed a half marathon in Marrakesh and keeps in shape cycling around historic Docklands.

And greeting them at the counter is South American Caroline Martinez, who has been working at the Cabot Place East sweet shop for a year.
The 27-year-old is a broadcast journalist in her home of Colombia, and plans to return when her English is up to scratch.
