Millwall Rugby Club played their first ever match on Millwall Park on Saturday but lost by a single point against East London.

Following a long running campaign to be allowed to play adult matches on the park, the Isle of Dogs team christened the pitch with a fraught derby match against their rivals from West Ham.

For a club that only started playing competitive rugby last season East London Phantoms have come a long way in a short time.

The club, who play at Memorial Park in West Ham, will play in Essex League Two next season, despite a mid-table finish in their debut campaign.
