Christopher Wren's epic sweep across the riverfront of Greenwich - now the Old Royal Naval College - was originally used as a hospital for sick seamen and their families.

After victory against France was secured in 1692, the joint monarchs, William and Mary, determined to build a hospital for veterans as a memorial to the war.

It's a World Heritage Site and soon to be a royal borough and now Greenwich has something else to boast about.

Discover Greenwich, which opened its doors to the public today, is a £6million visitor attraction designed to inspire visitors to learn more about the historic area.
