Greenwich Council has apologised for ongoing closures of the foot tunnels which are likely to continue until next year.

Officials at the council have recently come under fire for its handling of the project by politicians including Liberal Democrats London Assembly member Caroline Pidgeon.

Officers at Greenwich Council have been slammed for their "appalling" handling of the ongoing closure of the foot tunnel in Woolwich.

The pedestrian and cycle crossing was, according to the council's website until this week, due to finally reopen last month. However, those visiting the site saw a sign explaining it would be closed until Spring 2012.

West India Dock will be partially drained in the next few weeks as Crossrail construction continues in Canary Wharf.

Piling has now been completed at the site known as Adams Place, and Crossrail has claimed work is "proceeding to schedule" as the £16billion project enters 2010.
