Transport for London has been criticised for spending over £150,000 on questioning people about the cable car service.

Following a Freedom of Information request the group said it had carried out three customer satisfaction polls, a user survey, as well as local business and resident polls, over the river crossing link.

During the first seven months of operation the cable car has had a combined total of five and a half days unplanned closures, mainly due to high winds.

The information came in a response from the Mayor of London's office to a question by Lib Dem assembly member Caroline Pidgeon this week.

Boris Johnson's cable car has come under criticism for low passenger numbers but at least those using the service are apparently happy.

The Emirates Air Line is to shut to allow for a week for maintenance work to be carried out.

Transport for London said the work - which will take place between March 18 and 24 - is a statutory requirement on cable cars around the world. It includes weight testing and inspection of the line.

Cable car figures keep on tumbling

The number of people using the Thames cable car hit a new low for the second week running.

Figures from the Transport for London website showed just 14,755 rode the river link in the week ending February 2. It was a period in which the service suffered a number of closures due to high winds.
