Breakdowns on the Tube could be attended to in half the time if a trial which involves putting engineers on emergency response vehicles proves to be a success.

British Transport Police said figures for crime overall were down but instances of stolen railway property saw a huge increase, while robbery and fraud were also up.

DLR services were disrupted on Thursday after a man was spotted walking along the tracks near London City Airport.

Early reports suggest he was carrying a knife in the incident which occured at around 1.30pm and saw the line closed for nearly half an hour.

The man, who has not been named but is believed to be 42-years-old and from Sutton Coldfield, was hit by the train at around 9.30pm. Emergency services were called and the man was taken to hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

The 29-year-old charity worker from Tower Hamlets was on a Southern trains service travelling from South Bermondsey to London Bridge when she was attacked.

British Transport Police (BTP) want to trace him in connection with an investigation into the posting of homophobic stickers around east London, including Canary Wharf, in recent months. The stickers feature a rainbow flag with a red line through it with the message 'gay free zone'.

crossharbour 142.jpgCCTV images have been released of a man police are looking for in connection with a mobile phone snatch at Crossharbour DLR station.

A member of DLR staff was verbally abused by the suspect, and then had her phone snatched from her hand after she had asked to check his Oyster card. The suspect then ran from the train and out of the station.

A group of men who violently assaulted a passenger on the Jubilee line and gave homophobic abuse to another are being hunted by police.

The incident took place on a westbound line train on December 7 after a Suede gig at the North Greenwich arena.

A DLR thug has been jailed after punching and kicking a 50-year-old man who had asked him to stop making offensive comments.

Jabu Somgxada, 29, of Palmeira Avenue, on Westcliffe on Sea, was sentenced to six months for the attack which happened at Langdon Park station.

A fare dodger has been given a community order and made to pay compensation after assaulting a DLR worker.

Ayo Bodunrin, 21, of St Leonards Road in Poplar, was also ordered to attend an 18-day course to help deal with aggression following the attack in May last year.

British Transport Police stopped trains between North Greenwich and Stratford at around 10pm last night, as officers attempted to persuade the teenager not to throw herself onto the track.
