DLR strike action gets go-ahead

Docklands Light Railway management is confident of avoiding strike action despite the Court of Appeal overturning bans on walk-outs.

Aslef and the RMT union were both ordered to scrap industrial ballot reports due to discrepancies but a ruling on Friday gave them the all clear to strike over a fall-out on pay and conditions.

DLR1.JPGThe Docklands Light Railway is set to be hit by strikes after members of the RMT union voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action.

A ballot of members closed yesterday, with 162 voting for strike action, with just 36 against. A total of 175 voted for action short of a strike, with 21 against. As yet no dates have been mooted for when the strikes could take place.

RMT to ballot members over DLR strike action

DLR1.JPGThe RMT Union is balloting its members over strike action on the Docklands Light Railway.

The ballot is for strike action and action short of a strike, such as refusal to work overtime, and has been prompted by an ongoing dispute between it and Serco Docklands, who operate the DLR.

DLR strike cancelled

Industrial action on the DLR which was due to begin on Friday has been cancelled after an agreement was reached between Serco Docklands and the RMT.

Union members had previously voted to strike over the increased workload due to the introduction of three car trains on the service.

00jul17transport11.JPGAs if looming strikes on the Underground are not enough to contend with the Docklands Light Railway will be hit by industrial action later this month.

The RMT union has announced there will be a walkout on the DLR between 4am on Wednesday, June 23 and 3.59am on Saturday, June 26. The union's members will also refuse to work any overtime on Monday, June 28.

The Canary Wharf-based consortium is set to be be taken over by Transport for London after a £310million buy-out was announced last week, but that has not prevented the RMT union balloting its members about strike action.

The Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union members will walk out from 7.29am on January 27 in a dispute over a pay gap between them and other tube workers.

Talks are continuing to avert a 48-hour DLR strike which has been threatened by union members over new rosters.

The RMT union said its members in the control centre will walk out just after midday on Wednesday, September 30, and not return to work until lunchtime on Friday.

STAFF at the DLR control room could hold a 24-hour strike next week after a breakdown in talks between the RMT and Serco Docklands.

Negotiations have been ongoing over proposals to reduce weekend working hours which the union argues will cost 30 staff 24 rest days.
