Plans have been unveiled for a 130 bedroom hotel in the heart of Woolwich.

Key Homes Group has announced it has bought a 125 year lease on the site at Berkeley Homes Royal Arsenal Riverside development. It will be building a mid-market hotel there with the aim of opening by 2013.

Berkeley Homes has submitted a planning application for the £1billion regeneration of one of south east London’s most rundown areas. The scheme, at Kidbrooke’s Ferrier Estate, will provide 4,000 new homes and will be the largest residential redevelopment in the UK, outside of the Olympic zone.

Berkeley Homes has scooped two awards for its former Ministry of Defence complex at Royal Arsenal.

It won a prize at the Building for Life awards last week and will be presented with another this month by the British Urban Regeneration Association.

FORMERLY a warehouse for storing sugar, a Grade II-listed building at Tower Gateway DLR is being transformed into luxury flats, writes Rob Virtue.

Sugar House is within walking distance to the City and also just a short DLR ride to Canary Wharf. The Victorian building is being renovated by Berkeley Homes to allow for 42 apartments.
