When the £1.5billion Silvertown Quays scheme was approved in 2007, the London Development Agency said it would "bring new life to this part of the old docks".

Last month, it declared the current vision dead. So where does this leave Royal Docks?

A sauna in one of the Wharf's most luxurious developments was "destroyed" in a fire at the weekend.

Around 60 firefighters and 12 fire engines battled the blaze, which broke out on the third floor of Pan Peninsula's six-floor residents-only leisure complex at just before 8.20am on Saturday.

Tower Hamlets Council may have to claw £13million out of reserves to keep the regeneration of the Robin Hood Gardens site on course.

Cabinet members will be told next Wednesday (July 1) that the council has "insufficient capital resources" to continue buying-out homes on the Poplar estate without the transfer.

During the day, Tracy Waller's Alpha Grove home literally shakes.

Lightbulbs pop, the doorknobs rattle and the furniture vibrates. She claims most days have been like this since work began on Ballymore's Mastmaker Road development just a few feet from her home around two and a half years ago.

Detailed plans are beginning to emerge for the buildings that will make up the large mixed-use Wood Wharf scheme to the east of Canary Wharf.

Applications for the first two buildings in the seven hectare scheme have now been submitted to Tower Hamlets Council. The full scheme received outline permission last year.

Pan Peninsula buyers admit they "don't know which way to turn" as they strive to pay for their homes.

Ballymore has advised purchasers that speaking about their plight may be "counterproductive" to their bid for finance, creating a "negative hue" around the luxury Millharbour development.

Buyers at Pan Peninsula are desperate to re-negotiate their contracts with Ballymore after becoming overwhelmed by rising costs.

As reported in The Wharf last week, the sharp drop in property prices has hit the luxury development hard, with some units falling in value by nearly a third in just over two years.

Falling property prices have left many Pan Peninsula buyers struggling to pay for their dream homes.

Buyers flocked to snap up apartments in the Millharbour development just over two years ago. But some are now reportedly making "irrational" decisions to meet costs.

A RECORD £153million will be pumped into Docklands if planners give the green-light to Wood Wharf – including £118million for transport alone.

DEVELOPER Ballymore has received planning permission for two major Docklands projects.

A twisting tower on the site of the old London Arena and a project including two and a half thousand residential units in Royal Docks have both been approved by councillors.

ONE of the world’s most famous architects has backed it – but it seems a 1970s ‘brutalist’ housing estate next to Canary Wharf will soon be history unless it is listed.

The Wharf revealed how Robin Hood Gardens estate in Blackwall was under threat as part of a large regeneration scheme, and now demolition has come a step closer.

Last Wednesday (March 5) Tower Hamlets Council’s cabinet gingerly approved a rough framework plan for the Blackwall Reach project, which would see up to 3,000 homes rise from the rubble of the 1970s structure.

English Heritage has not yet decided whether to recommend the listing of the building to the Government.

A FUTURISTIC two-tower scheme may soon rise from the ashes of the Trafalgar Way McDonald's restaurant.

Helix-London is a 397-unit residential complex boasting a children's play area, creche, convenience stores and a garden area. The current McDonald's eatery will also return as a ground-floor outlet.

Developers are also eyeing up several improvements for passing pedestrians as part of the scheme, which was submitted to planners last month.

McDonalds is currently located on the cusp of the Aspen Way roundabout, in the midst of hotbed of potential developments including the 3,000-home Blackwall Reach scheme.

00Feb28NightLandscape.jpgThe London Arena once hosted concerts from the likes of Pink Floyd and Robbie Williams.

But today, as this picture from Wharf photographer Ben Broomfield shows, the concerts, plays, sport and other events are long gone and the site will have a very different use.

Work started on the mixed-use scheme at Crossharbour after the Arena building was demolished in June 2006.

Ballymore’s development – dubbed Baltimore Wharf – is set to be completed in 2010 and includes housing, offices, hotel, shopping and leisure facilities.
