Helen Wheeler has been mushing her way across the Arctic.

Ms Wheeler, took part in the 250km Lapland Husky Trail Challenge across the Arctic from Norway to Sweden. She camped in sub-zero conditions, cooked her own food and cared for the huskies, to raise over £800 for Headway East London, a charity supporting people affected by brain injury.

The Wharf is very probably to blame for an Isle of Dogs women suffering the inhospitable climes of the Arctic.

Linda Pomery, 34, embarked on a North Pole expedition after reading a copy of the paper.

She said: "There was an article in it on a 2010 race to the magnetic North Pole. Someone was looking for team mates.

A Canary Wharf resident has successfully conquered the North Pole.

Linda Pomeroy contacted The Wharf from a far-flung location to pass on the news that she had reached her destination earlier this month.

Linda's three member team, named Global Village, reached the magnetic North Pole while competing in the 2010 Polar Challenge.

One Wharfer is getting away from it by trekking to the Geomagnetic North Pole to help study a different kind of meltdown - that of the polar ice cap.

But Blackwall resident Pauline Southam will also be making history. Not only will the 50-year-old become part of the first all-female team to make the 300 mile trek, she will also become the oldest woman to achieve the feat.
