After selling the company she built up from scratch and through considerable hardships, you would imagine Alexandra Kelly would be putting her feet up.

But that's not the life for the founder of Wapping-based employment security checking firm Powerchex.

A takeover of pre-employment screening firm Powerchex which will result in around 150 new jobs at the company has been announced.

The Wapping-based company was acquired by US firm HireRight on Tuesday. The deal will see Powerchex, set up by Alexandra Kelly in 2005, expand its operations.

Whisper it quietly, but there are some promising signs for the capital's economy.

After a 2009 of fiscal woe, reports are starting to suggest that although the future is still fragile, business is beginning to recover.

It took nearly three months for Powerchex, a Wapping-based pre-employment screening company, to secure its first customer but Alexandra Kelly was never worried.

Four years later and the managing director and owner's faith in the brand has been proved right.
