westham.jpgNigel Quashie finally brought his unsuccessful stint at West Ham to an end when he rejoined QPR this afternoon.

The midfielder, who has not featured in the Hammers' first team since March 2007, has been allowed to move to the club where he began his career on a free transfer.

westham.jpgFormer West Ham manager Alan Curbishley has won his claim for constructive dismissal against the club.

Curbishley resigned from the Upton Park hotseat in September last year claiming the club's transfer policy had undermined his position as manager.

ianrush.jpgALAN Curbishley may have gone but he got the backing of Liverpool legend Ian Rush when he visited Canary Wharf this week.

Rush had every sympathy with the plight endured by Curbishley towards the end of his reign at Upton Park, having endured a similar experience when in charge of Chester City in 2004/05.

"You get told what to do," he said. "The average span of managers now is getting less and less. Look at Alex Ferguson, it was five years before he won anything but there's no chance of that happening again.

"It's instant success that's needed, because that's the pressure they put on people now. You've got to be an instant success or you're out."

FF-sep4-AlanLARGE.jpgALAN Curbishley has resigned as manager of West Ham.

The Hammers boss tendered his resignation in a meeting with the board this morning.

It follows intense speculation about Curbishley's future over recent weeks, particularly after several players were sold over the summer - apparently without his knowledge or agreement.

The club confirmed the news this afternoon with an official statement on their website.

It said: "West Ham United can confirm that we have accepted Alan Curbishley's resignation as it was felt it was in the best interests of both parties. We wish Alan all the best for the future.

"A short-list of candidates will be drawn up and an announcement will be made in due course."

The Hammers had an old head and a couple of young guns to thank for a 4-1 win against the League Two outfit, a scoreline that flattered them after they struggled for long periods of the game.

Alan Curbishley has promised to field a strong side against the Silkmen, believing the competition offers the Hammers the best chance of glory this season.

WestHamBOX.gifWEST Ham have been handed a home draw against League Two side Macclesfield Town in the second round of the Carling Cup.

Alan Curbishley's men will relish the prospect of a relatively easy outing against the Silkmen, who beat Blackpool 2-0 in Tuesday's first round.

WestHamBOX.gifWEST HAM tuned up for the new Premier League season with an ill-tempered 1-1 draw against Spanish La Liga side Villareal on Saturday, August 9.

The game, played in torrential rain, was a sideshow to the main event of the day - the retirement of the club's number six shirt in honour of former skipper Bobby Moore.

WestHamBOX.gifTHE season hasn’t started yet but already the injury worries are starting for West Ham manager Alan Curbishley.

Craig Bellamy limped off during Monday’s friendly against Ipswich, with the full extent of the Welshman’s hamstring problem not yet known, but it means Curbishley’s first-choice strike force might not be ready for the season opener against Wigan on August 16.

The 26-year-old Czech Republic under-21 international will provide cover for first-choice keeper Rob Green and joins from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk.

CRAIG Bellamy starred for West Ham as they eased to a 4-2 win over non-leaguers Hampton and Richmond Borough last night.

The Welsh striker scored twice as he produced a lively display against the Blue Square South outfit, managed by former Upton Park hero Alan Devonshire.

Alan Curbishley’s men sealed 10th spot with Sunday’s point against Aston Villa, thanks to a superb 88th minute strike from Dean Ashton.

But the 24-year-old’s future at the club is in doubt. He wants to stay but talks about extending his contract, which has two years to run, have yet to happen.

An England recall for the games with the USA and Trinidad and Tobago won’t harm his bargaining position and team-mate Robert Green thinks Ashton deserves a long-overdue first cap.

WestHam.gifWest Ham wrap up their season on Sunday when Aston Villa travel to Upton Park in a game that has significance for both clubs.

The Hammers need to win to guarantee tenth place, ahead of bitter rivals Tottenham who lie just two points behind them in the Premier League table.

Spurs' superior goal difference means Alan Curbishley's men could be overtaken if they draw and Tottenham beat Liverpool, something that would be unpalatable to the majority of the Upton Park faithful.

WestHam.gifIT'S ALMOST the end of the road for West Ham as they play their last away game of the season against Manchester United this weekend.

Alan Curbishley takes his 100 per cent record against the Premier League Champions to Old Trafford on Saturday (May 3), knowing a point would be good enough to guarantee the Hammers 10th place.

The Irons will be without Freddie Ljungberg, whose cracked rib sustained in last Saturday's (April 26) 2-2 draw with Newcastle will rule him out for a month, and possible the European Championships.

WEST Ham squandered a two goal lead but produced their best performance for weeks against Kevin Keegan's resurgent Newcastle side.

In bright sunshine at Upton Park on Saturday goals from Mark Noble and Dean Ashton were just reward for the Hammers' early dominance and they should really have been out of sight well before half-time.

But two defensive lapses enabled Obafemi Martins and then Geremi to pull the Magpies level just before the break, and Irons' fans must have feared the worst.

WestHam.gifWEST HAM’S big-earners can breathe easy this week as they won’t be the fall guys when the squad is cut down in size after the season finishes.

Alan Curbishley’s expensively assembled collection of players, many of whom have spent longer on the treatment table than the pitch, is almost certain to be reduced, according to Hammers’ chief executive Scott Duxbury.

But Duxbury denied senior, and highly-paid, pros like Freddie Ljungberg and Lucas Neill will be allowed to leave, insisting it will be fringe players, such as Nigel Quashie and Calum Davenport, who are likely to be shown the Upton Park door in an effort to cut costs.

Curbishley.jpgIT MAY be bonus time in Canary Wharf but West Ham’s players look set to miss out on theirs unless performances start to improve.

Tuesday’s (April 8) 1-0 defeat by Portsmouth was a distinctly flat affair, with a number of players looking more preoccupied with heading to the beach than trying to secure a top-ten Premier League finish.

Manager Alan Curbishley revealed the club’s bonus structure is based on the Irons finishing in the top ten, with the players – and club officials – set to miss out unless they start picking up points soon.

THE SEASON can’t end soon enough for Alan Curbishley and his injury-ravaged West Ham squad.

Saturday’s (March 29) 2-1 defeat at Sunderland – courtesy of ex-Charlton star Andy Reid’s last-minute volley – was of less consequence than the loss of more players to the treatment table.

George McCartney and Freddie Ljungberg both picked up hamstring injuries, while Carlton Cole (sore foot) and John Pantsil (concussion) also suffered knocks.

It leaves Curbishley short of options with just six games of the season left to play. Matty Etherington and Julien Faubert were ruled out for the rest of the campaign last week and the Hammers travelled to Sunderland with just 17 fit players.

63mar27ashton.jpgTHE KIDS are coming through for Alan Curbishley as he blooded yet another West Ham Academy graduate in the first team.

Saturday’s (March 22) 1-1 draw at Everton saw defender James Tomkins make his senior debut, following in the footsteps of fellow teenagers Jack Collison and Freddie Sears.

Curbishley had no hesitation in pitching Tomkins into the side after injuries ruled out all his senior centre-backs bar Anton Ferdinand.

With Sears coming off the bench and almost snatching another away win for the Hammers with a late effort that hit the post, the fabled West Ham production line seems to be in full working order. And with the amount of money available to the manager to strengthen his squad this summer likely to be limited it’s timely.
