Manager Slaven Bilic was upbeat after West Ham Utd drew 2-2 with Manchester City at the Boleyn Ground – despite feeling they should have claimed maximum points.
Argentinian striker Sergio Aguero rescued City on two occasions putting the visitors back on level terms after West Ham forward Enner Valencia had twice put the home side ahead.
Bilic said: “It was a great game of football. It was good for the fans that it was live on television and it was brilliant for the neutrals. I am really proud of the team. When we entered the dressing room at full time we were disappointed but that is a good thing.
“When we’re at home and 2-1 up of course they will dominate the game but it’s also encouraging that we nearly scored the third even though they hit the post twice. It just shows how well we played against one of the title favourites. We were fantastic.”
Either side could have grabbed a winner as Aguero was close to his hat-trick – hitting the post in the first half while also being denied by Hammers goal keeper Adrian late in the second half.
Meanwhile midfielder Fabian Delph also struck the woodwork for Manuel Pellegrini’s team while West Ham’s midfield powerhouse Cheikhou Kouyate rattled the crossbar with his header on the 93rd minute.
Bilic praised his players and said they were capable of beating any team in the division.
“They’ve been in trouble away from home on a few occasions but it is usually based on tough defending from the opponents,” said Bilic.

“This league is impossible to predict because it is so demanding and even. Anybody is capable of beating anyone in this league. I don’t know where it would take us but all I can say is if we play like this then we’ll have a chance of winning against any team – home or away.
“The players believe and that’s great if they believe. If we dig deep as a team and be compact and aggressive from the first minute then I have no reason to believe we cannot make it into the top six.”
