The growing exodus to China has another recruit – West Ham’s unsettled striker Nikica Jelavic. He has joined second division side Beijing Renhe for a free reported to be around £4million.

The Croatian international hasn’t flourished under the management of his fellow countryman Slaven Bilic making just one Premier League appearance.

The former Everton and Rangers player made 12 appearances from the bench and scored once since his £3million move from Hull at the end of last summer but the arrival of loan striker Emmanuel Emenike has pushed him down the pecking order.

Jelavic follows Chelsea’s Ramires, who joined Jiangsu Suning for £25million last month, while striker Jackson Martinez joined Guangzhou Evergrande for £31m from Atletico Madrid for a record fee in Asia. Ex-Serie A duo Gervinho and Fredy Guarin are among the other big Chinese signings in 2016.
