West Ham have made a £12million bid for Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez, according to reports in Spain .

The Hammers have left it late to find a striker, but an injury to Enner Valencia means securing a forward is Slaven Bilic’s top priority for the start of the season.

The Ecuadorian is expected to be out for up to three months, leaving the Irons’ striking options threadbare – Modibo Maiga and Diafra Sakho are now the only recognised available strikers.

Javier Hernandez – known as Chicharito – spent last season on loan at Real Madrid, as he had found it difficult to usurp Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney as United’s main strikers.

Despite playing second fiddle to Karim Benzema, he still managed a respectable nine goals for Los Blancos.

Atletico Madrid striker Raul Jimenez has also been listed as a target, but it is understood that 27-year-old Hernandez is top of the Irons’ wish list.
