West Ham Utd are still on the hunt for a class striker, a theme that has been an undercurrent at the club since before the season ended.
Despite concerns about the pre-eminence of Dimitri Payet, currently causing a stir at Euro 2016, Irons boss Slaven Bilic has reportedly asked the club to have another go at bringing a class frontman to the Olympic Stadium.
This has meant another attempt to prise Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon, with a bigger offer – upwards of £30million. Tottenham have apparently lost interest in the French international, who was seeking Champions League football, opening the way for another bid.
A new name on the wanted list is Juventus striker Simone Zaza, the subject of a £20million bid from German side Wolfsburg. Juve want to keep the Italian international but can’t offer him the regular football he wants.
West Ham are among a number of English clubs looking to seek if they can pick up the pieces of any failed deal. He's currently on duty at Euro 2016 and nothing will be decided until the end of the tournament.
West Ham are prepared to pay around £15million but you can add £10million to that before Juventus pick up the phone.
Meanwhile, Reece Oxford’s future is still in the air. It was thought that the player had settled at West Ham with the prospect of a season-long loan at Newcastle giving him the first team football he craves. But now Bundesliga club Red Bull Leipzig can offer him £20,000 a week, re-igniting the dormant interest of Manchester Utd and Liverpool. Oxford wants to stay in England.
Another possible newcomer to east London is Nigerian midfielder Ago Chukwudi
“West Ham have offered Agor Chukwudi a straight contract without him having to undergo trials, very soon he’ll turn 18,” his agent, Emeka Amajiriaku, told website All Nigeria Soccer .
“We are studying the offer and it is very likely we will accept it. We are interested in the player’s development and not the money that is being offered.”
Sporting Lisbon had been monitoring the player but have now apparently gone cold on the idea.
