West Ham bosses have £30million burning in their pocket, a keen desire to land a big name striker and a shopping list with names that, in the most part, have been crossed through in red ink.

The club has made inquiries about a dozen or more frontmen with little success – including Callum Wilson, Michy Batshuayi, Jonathan Calleri, Arkadiusz Milik and Alexandre Lacazette .

The latest is a concrete offer of £16million for AC Milan’s Carlos Bacca which, at the very least, has prompted his agent to climb on board a plane and take a mosey around the negotiating table, according to reports. The Serie A club puts a £19million value on the player.

Meanwhile, West Ham are also looking to the north east where Newcastle striker Ayoze Perez , 22, appears unlikely to settle for life in the Championship. Everton and Inter Milan are also monitoring to see what the Spaniard does next.

The east Londoners appear to have little trouble filling other slots on the team sheet with deals for central midfielder Havard Nordtveit and winger Gokhan Tore from Besiktas either done or pending.

And, at the back, they are targeting Lyon’s under 21 defender Samuel Umtiti – described as “one of Europe’s brightest talents” – who has also turned Arsenal’s head. Whether he is companion for Reece Oxford or in opposition to the Manchester Utd target remains to be seen.

Jose Mourinho has upped his interest in the Young Hammer of the Year to £15million but Oxford is still playing hard to get.
