West Ham Utd are looking to seal their status as European contenders with a marquee signing, according to reports.

They have Liverpool’s unsettled striker Christian Benteke in their sights with Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette and Belgian international striker Michy Batshuayi also on their radar. Reports from Sky Sports suggest there may be a war chest of up to £40million to land the right player.

Benteke, 25, went to Liverpool for £32.5million from Aston Villa but has never settled with his goal tally just seven compared to 19 in the 2012/13 season

The news comes as West Ham complete their signing of Manuel Lanzini who scored a fine goal in the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea.

Jack Sullivan, the son of West Ham’s joint-chairman David Sullivan, confirmed the news on Twitter. He wrote: “Lanzini is a WHU player for the next 4 seasons, with a further 2 year option.”

Slaven Bilic has now secured the services longer term of three key players with Dimitri Payet and Cheikhou Kouyate now on long term contracts.

Meanwhile, one of the ties that will shape the rest of the season has been penned into the diary. West Ham will play Manchester Utd on Wednesday, April 13, the winner making it through to the semi-finals of the FA Cup and a Wembley date.
