Biking will be on the brains of many Wharfers tomorrow (May 14) as they prepare for Canary Wharf’s first Royal Bank of Canada V Series.
The corporate cycling challenge will see about 20 teams of eight riders tackle four 1km laps of the estate against the clock.
Warm-up pits will be installed at Canada Square Park while the action takes place from 7pm along the North and South Colonnades.
British Cycling technical director Shane Sutton has led the event from the outset and recently shared his top tips during a training day at Lee Valley VeloPark.
He said: “With just a few hours to go until racing starts teams can’t really make any changes to win the event, but they can lose the event by not focusing on getting the basics right.
“What we can be sure about is that the event will provide fantastic entertainment on the night.
“Those who come down to watch the racing close-up will experience the thrill and excitement of Italian Pursuit racing and witness another sporting first for Canary Wharf.”
Wharf-based firms taking to the track include Thomson Reuters, Canary Wharf Group, Clifford Chance and JP Morgan.
And as well as offering sports injury support and massages, Cabot Place Mall’s Pure Sports Medicine crew will be showcasing their cycling skills.
Team member Pure specialist MSK physio Bryan McCullough said: “The team are generally really excited to get out on the road and see if all the training and preparation has paid off.
“We’re also hoping that the rain doesn’t make the course too difficult to get around safely.”
Spectators are invited to cheer on the action for free and a screen showing live footage will also be installed in Canada Square Park.
