NBA action is coming to The O2 arena when the Denver Nuggets take on the Indiana Pacers.

Announced by the association's European office via Facebook live, the game is scheduled to take place on Thursday, January 12, 2017 .

It will be the first time a team from its Western Conference – Denver – will play in a regular season game in Britain. It will also be a UK debut for Indiana.

Going on past form, Indiana appear the stronger side having reached the play-offs last season, while Denver had a rocky time winning only 33 games.

The Nuggets' Danilo Gallinari, who was born in Italy, said: “Our entire team and organisation are looking forward to this opportunity to showcase our league to fans overseas.”

Indiana's roster three-time All Star Paul George said: “I’m really excited and thankful the NBA is allowing us to reach out to our fans in London. This is great exposure for our team and our franchise.”

NBA commissioner Adam Silver added: “We are thrilled to return for our seventh regular-season game in London. We are seeing first-hand the global growth of our game, which has never been more popular in the UK.”

Tickets for the game are set to go on sale at the beginning of the NBA's 2016-17 season.
