Aidan O’Brien was the star of the show for Millwall, netting a hat-trick to kickstart the Lions’ trudging season.
The youngster was the pick of the crop for Neil Harris’s side, and the boss heaped praise on his frontmen for their hard work during the international break.
Harris told fansite News at Den: “I’m first and foremost delighted for Aiden O’Brien. I’m also delighted that not only were so many players so good and consistent for 90 minutes but they stuck to the gameplan and it worked for us.
“Aiden has that quality. We’ve got players in our group who can score goals like that. He will take the plaudits for the goals but Steve Morison led the line really well today.
“I thought that when Crewe were making eight or nine, 12, 15 passes we still limited their opportunities in open play.
He singled midfield men Shaun Williams and Jimmy Abdou for their part in bossing the centre of the park.
“They managed the midfield excellently,” added Harris. “And when you play someone like Ed Upson, in that position, he used all his experience as well to manage the game.
“I thought those in particular and the back four, the way they want to defend and the manner in which they wanted to learn in the last nine days, we worked continuously day after day, then you get rewards like that.
“I said to the boys now it’s how we respond Tuesday after what was a very good performance.”
