The AJ Bell London Triathlon will be taking over part of east London on Saturday, August 8 and Sunday, August 9.

So if you are taking part, cheering someone on, or just want to know what the roads will be like in the area over the weekend, then have a look at our travel guide below.

The event will be held in and around Excel centre at Royal Victoria Dock (E16 1XL for your sat nav).

By car:

ExceL is accessed from the A13 but this will be busy on race days due to road closures, so make sure you plan your journey and give yourself plenty of time if you’re driving to the event.

The A13 can be reached from central London, Blackwall and Rotherhithe Tunnels, the A406 North Circular, M25 and M11. ExceL Parking is signed from both Gallions Reach roundabout (from the east) and Canning Town (from the west).

There is parking at the Excel centre, although it will cost a daily rate of £15.

By public transport:

The nearest station to the event is Prince Regent on the DLR line, however Canning Town station (1.6 miles from Excel) is a short walk (5-10 minutes) away and that is served by the DLR and Jubilee Line.

The advantage of the DLR is you can take your bike on the train (although only two bikes are allowed “per set of doors”), so give yourself plenty of time in case you need to miss a few trains.

You can also travel to North Greenwich via the Jubilee Line and then get the Emirates Airline across the Royal Victoria Dock.
