Charlton have fixed themselves with stubbornness to their mid-table position, staying just in the top half by one goal.
Their assault on the teams above them took a battering as in-form Blackburn, now in 10th, took away the three points from the Valley in a 1-3 defeat. Head coach Guy Luzon blamed mistakes in defence for the loss.
Jordan Rhodes – linked to a move to promotion chasing Middlesbrough – did the damage with two goals but the home side were felled by sucker punches in the 15 and 18 minutes leaving them on the back foot throughout.
A second half Yoni Buyens penalty was the sole return for their efforts although Igor Vetoleke went close, with his header hitting the bar.
Head coach Guy Luzon: "We started the game well. The personal mistake in the goal that we conceded broke our spirit.
"In the second half we gave everything and tried to play positive and to create chances. And the problem today was our aggression in the defence. We played a little bit without aggression and also it was reflected in attack."
