Runners from more than 500 clubs across London are limbering up for the Great Newham London Run and the chance to cross the finish line on the Olympic Stadium track.
The event has so far attracted 130 teams who will go head to head to try and get the fastest overall time for the 10km race and win prizes including a trip to Ethiopia.
Clubs including East End Road Runners, Serpentine Running Club and Rebel Runners from Medway will line up under the ArcelorMittal Orbit on Sunday, July 17. The race will take competitors on a loop around Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park before finishing in the Stadium where our London 2012 heroes crossed the finish line.
Places are still available for the 10km which starst at 9.30am and and the 2km family run (for children aged five to eighteen and accompanying adults) which starts at 1.15pm and each runner is able to bring two spectators to cheer them on
Chairman of the event organisers Great Run Company Brendan Foster said: “Running clubs are the beating heart of our sport and it is great to recognise this with a great running experience and stellar prizes.
“It is exciting to see so many clubs entering The Great Run Club Challenge, which gives all affiliated clubs from London and the rest of the UK the chance to run as a team and compete for prizes, including a trip to the Great Ethiopian Run.”
To enter the Great Run Club challenge runners need to give their club name when entering and ensure their athlete registration is up to date.
