Charlton Athletic boss Russell Slade has signed two players as he begins to rebuild the side.

Northampton Town’s Ricky Holmes and Birmingham City’s Lee Novak both signed contracts for The Addicks as the new boss hopes to bring a winning mentality back to The Valley.

Lee enjoyed a successful loan spell at League One’s Chesterfield in the 2015/16 season, bagging 15 goals, and joins Charlton for three years on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old striker told the Charlton Athletic website : “It’s brilliant to get everything sorted. I came down on Monday and spoke to the gaffer and Katrien and I’m delighted that we have got it signed.

“This is a huge club, the facilities here are brilliant and the gaffer’s plans for the future and his aims for the club were a real attraction for me.

“A club this size needs to be looking for promotion to get up the leagues and I’m hopeful that we can achieve that next season.”

Midfielder Ricky Holmes, who has signed a two-year deal, scored 11 goals in the 2015/16 season and was named in League Two’s Team of the Year.

“The Manager was massive in me signing here,” Ricky told the Charlton Athletic website. “He’s so experienced and I know people like Dean Cox, who have worked with him at Leyton Orient, have always given him a lot of praise.

“I spoke with the gaffer and he really sold his vision for the club to me and after seeing the facilities that we have here it was an easy decision for me to make.

“I can’t wait to get working on the training ground, meet all of my new teammates, get going and start winning games of football.

“It’s absolutely brilliant for me to sign.”
