It was a night of firsts for Charlton as they continued their solid start to the season with a comfortable win over Essex boys Dagenham and Redbridge in the Capital One Cup first round.

Following on from their impressive win against QPR, the hosts dominated from start to finish, with Tony Watt getting himself on the score sheet again, opening the scoring with a neat finish on 26 minutes.

Guy Luzon took the opportunity to ring the changes to the starting line up, with Naby Sarr making his first start following his move from Portugal.

He helped provide a steady foundation for the Addicks to take the game to their opponents, eventually doubling the lead through Karlan Ahearne-Grant five minutes before half time.

It was 17-year-old Grant’s first goal for the Addicks.

Another debutant, Zakaraya Bergdich, found the net for the Addicks to make it 3-0 and put the game beyond the reach of the Daggers, who pulled one back with 20 minutes to go through Christian Doidge.

Reza Ghoochannejhad put the game to bed on 77 minutes, as Charlton denied Dagenham their first ever League Cup victory.
