Canary Wharf Group has begun the hunt for great young sportsmen and women for its annual celebration of physical prowess.
The Canary Wharf Sports Personality Of The Year awards celebrate the top talent in east London communities, and organisers are seeking nominations.
Winners will join the likes of previous recipients Olympic athlete Perri Shakes-Drayto, Tyesha Mattis and Mercy Brown.
Deserving local athletes, sports clubs and administrators are all eligible for the awards for achievements realised in the last 12 months.
The 14th annual ceremony will take place on Thursday, February 11, 2016, at the East Wintergarden and will be attended by special sporting guests along with a host of local dignitaries. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded in four categories
Applications will be considered from Tower Hamlets and each of the boroughs surrounding it, including Hackney, Newham, Greenwich and Barking and Dagenham.
Zakir Khan, head of community affairs at Canary Wharf Group, said: “When we organised the very first awards 14 years ago we wanted to recognise the success and achievements of local people in their chosen sports, and this remains the case today.
“It has been so exciting to see some of the early recipients go on to become household names, I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this year’s nominees and winners.”
Local sports people, clubs and administrators can submit a nomination by contacting Canary Wharf Group ’s community affairs team on 020 7537 6474. Entries close on Friday, December 18.
The categories are:
- Senior Sports Team of the Year
