There are more than 16,000 estate agent businesses in the UK – and Tower Hamlets has one of the biggest clusters in the land.

We analysed millions of rows of government business data to confirm what everyone suspected all along – estate agents are everywhere and especially in London.

With house prices rocketing up and down the country and renters becoming increasingly more common it is a good time to get involved in the real estate industry.

Our analysis of records from Companies House reveals that there are no fewer than 16,547 estate agent companies registered in the UK as a whole – 25.6 for every 100,000 people.

Predictably the situation is most extreme in London where there are 66.5 estate agencies for every 100,000 residents. The figure in Tower Hamlets is higher – 75 estate agents for every 100,00 residents.

When London is excluded the UK average is 19.4 per 100,000.

If you want to avoid all estate agencies entirely you don’t have many options. Only the Shetland Islands, the Isle of Scilly and Moyle and Ballymoney in Northern Ireland were found to have no estate agency businesses registered in their respective areas.

In terms of the sheer number of different estate agents Westminster emerged as the top local authority 839 companies registered there. This number will be affected by the fact that companies may have a registered address in the area but operate elsewhere.

Barnet has the next largest number with 466 while the only non-London based area to make the top 10 was Birmingham in fourth place with 285.
