Returning from Hong Kong in 1997, London Link managing director Lesley Balding was so drawn to Limehouse that she purchased a property in Dundee Wharf and set up her company, in Three Colt Street.
“A transient population has created a very distinctive rental market in Limehouse,” said Lesley, left.
“And the market we deal with is from £300 per week upwards, which would get you something around 500sq ft in good condition.
“The demand here is for furnished flats, particularly if you are looking for a one-bed.
“I’d say 99% were furnished so if you are looking for unfurnished the supply is very limited.”
The area’s popularity can be put down to its close community and attractive surroundings according to Lesley.
“Limehouse and Wapping still have that community feel despite being located between two of London’s financial districts,” she said.
“There are green areas, it’s on the water and both Westferry and Limehouse DLR stations are in walking distance, as is Canary Wharf.”
Flats dominate but there are houses available too.
Prime locations include Milligan Street, Dundee Wharf and Narrow Street. Lesley said the wide mixture of property added to the area’s appeal.
She said: “At the high end the majority of the property has good views, in locations like Limehouse Basin and Narrow Street.
“There are also areas like Dundee Wharf – nice gated developments with gyms and concierges. There are a number of large homes, penthouses and warehouse conversions.
“A mid-range property in Dundee Wharf could be around £500 per week and up, but the sky’s the limit.”
