Entrepreneurs Adam Hempenstall and Alex Brooke are celebrating after the company they started 13 years while still at university has become part of a billion pound business.
Peppermint is one of the UK’s largest event bar operators and currently runs The Tasting Room at Ice Rink Canary Wharf.
The company was acquired by drinks supplier Matthew Clark Holdings, which was subsequently acquired by leading independent drinks wholesaler Conviviality.
The latter firm has now finalised its purchase of a majority stake in Peppermint, which will continue to be run as an independent business.
Adam said: “Now the deal has completed, we’re ready to kick off 2016 as we mean to go on. We want to drive the business onto the next level of growth with our exciting new partners.
“The benefits and synergies of being involved are massive and we are already looking at some very exciting projects with stadiums and festivals.
“We’re a growing London business that has had its feet in Canary Wharf for a number of years. Alex and I set up the company in 2003 and we are now part of a £1.1billion business.”
Peppermint primarily provides bars and catering services to outdoor events and pours over four million pints over the summer.
Events serviced by the company include British Summer Time in Hyde Park, Henley Regatta, The Rugby World Cup and the Commonwealth Games.
It also provides the bars for Bestival.
Peppermint operated The Moose Bar at Canary Wharf’s ice rink between 2008 and 2011 and returned in 2015 with The Tasting Room.
Adam said: “The Tasting Room has done really well in Canary Wharf. It has been really well received, particularly our ambidextrous approach to food and drink.
“The pop-up projects like this one are more of a showcase of what we can do and how we bring food and drink together in a corporate environment. We have seen a big increase in corporate bookings.
“We have a second Tasting Room running in Broadgate and both will be open until the end of the February.”
Peppermint will provide bar services at The Wharf Property Awards 2016 on May 19.
Adam said: “We are the preferred supplier for Building Six at The O2 where the awards are being hosted.
“We know the venue intimately – this is another example of what we do.
“We provided the bar for the Kisstory event at The O2 this month, putting in 80 staff to cater for 3,100 thirsty clubbers.”
