An Olympic gymnast has swapped his pommel horse for paint swatches and discovered a flair for interior design at Weston Homes’ latest development.

Three-time Commonwealth gold medal winner Max Whitlock also has two Olympic bronze medals and a brace of World Artistic Gymnastics Silver Medals to his name has teamed up with the firm at its Highbanks development in Southend-on-Sea.

He said: “It has been such a pleasure to have the opportunity to interior design a show apartment at Highbanks.

“The development is set to be one of Southend’s best addresses, so it seemed the ideal setting to create a winner’s home with a sporting theme.

“I wanted to create a home that pays homage to a sporting legacy, incorporating designs that are inspired by my medals, which I worked hard to win.

“Key colours that make me feel energised have been used throughout the apartment, helping me to get up and go each morning.

“I am delighted with the result and I hope the proud buyer of the apartment will enjoy it too.”

Max collaborated with Blocc Interiors for one of the six apartments unveiled on the 10th floor.

The scheme is a conversion of a former Lloyds Bank call centre overlooking the Thames Estuary and will offer buyers a total of 97 one, two and three-bedroom properties when completed.

Max’s flat has a gold, silver and bronze theme with artwork inspired by Olympic medals as well as specially-commissioned pieces inspired by the sportsman’s career.

He also chose a large white corner sofa, huge TV and splashes of his favourite colour, orange.

Weston Homes’ managing director Bob Weston said: “We have sponsored and supported Max for several years, however we did not know he was a person of so many talents.

“His show apartment really adds a personal touch to Highbanks.”

Weston Homes’ specifications across the apartments include designer Oakwood kitchens with integrated Zanussi appliances and the developer’s signature Fascino instant hot water tap. The scheme sits overlooking the Thames Estuary and is close to both Southend Victoria and Southend Central stations.

A commute to Canary Wharf would take around an hour.

Prices for apartments at Highbanks start at £159,995.
