The private sale for the first phase of Merchants Walk is now available – offering buyers the chance to live close to Canary Wharf, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Westfield Stratford City.

Around 50% of the studio, one, two and three bed apartments have been reserved, but there are still plenty more available at this development near Devons Road DLR .

Peabody sales and marketing director Sarah Butler explained the advantage of buying a home at Merchants Walk.

She said: “This is one of those locations where you are truly within walking distance to the DLR and therefore you are only 10 minutes away from Canary Wharf, with options to go to Stratford, Westfield and London City Airport.

“Also you’re within the Olympic regeneration zone, which offers so many new locations on your doorstep. Then there is Hackney and Shoreditch nearby and Roman Road Market and the flower market – so you’re covered for bars, restaurants, shopping and going out.”

The homes have a surprising amount of space for London apartments as well, with interior design from Clare Morton, of Studio Morton.

She said: “I was very much inspired by east London as we know it to be today but I also included hints back to the industrial era here. I wanted to give a modern look and keep it very cool and trendy but at the same time make it a warm inviting place, not a concept.

“I really love the concrete effect wallpaper. The point behind it is to reflect the many cafes that open in old shops and strip away the interiors to take it back to the concrete. We wanted to bring that cool effect, but in a cleaner, warming way.

“Also the use of the dark paint opens up the space. People often think it would enclose it, but it does the opposite and the fact we haven’t used it on all of the walls means you get that dark/light contrast.”

Clare says she also got inspiration from the fashion world – which she says interior design often follows – but at a slower pace.

She said: “Interiors are a lot slower than fashion – interiors also move with the season, just at a slower rate as you wouldn’t want to change your home every five years.”

The second phase of Merchants Walk is expected to get going at the end of 2016. Prices for apartments in the first phase start at £305,000 for a studio.
