JLL is hoping to build on the success of its Canary Wharf operation following the recent arrival of sales chief Michael Whittaker.

The director of residential sales started at the Westferry Circus office in January, moving from his previous position as area partner at Felicity J Lord.

He brought with him more than 11 years of experience in the capital’s property market, including overseeing the development of six offices across east and south-east London.

Michael said: “I am very much looking forward to using my skills and passion for the industry to continue the great work of the already established and successful sales team in Canary Wharf, putting customer experience at the forefront.

“The local market is growing rapidly and I am committed to using my experience to ensure that JLL remains a key player within it.”

Michael moved into the industry in 2003 after studying biology at the University of Greenwich.

His initial hope was to build his sales experience before breaking into the pharmaceutical industry.

But then he discovered a flare and passion for property and decided he had found his true calling.

As well as his time at Felicity J Lord, Michael also had a stint at Douglas Allen, dealing with properties in Essex and north-east London.

He hopes now to build JLL’s presence in the Canary Wharf market, which he described as “reasonably priced” and “stable”, with opportunities out there for the both the wealthy and less well-off.

“The demand is still there and there is a huge amount of competition,” he said.

“It’s a great time for the market, with a fantastic amount of properties available. The prices are reasonable and stable and I think they are going to be that way for a while.”

He said the area attracted a mix of both local and overseas buyers, with interest coming from as far afield as China and Hong Kong.

“There is a lot of activity and places available for people on a range of incomes,” he said. “You can buy a one-bedroom flat for £350,000.

“There is so much going on around Canary Wharf. That is why I am so excited about the future of JLL.”
