Proportion of second homes

COUNCIL TAX DATA BASE

Tower Hamlets has the fifth highest proportion of second homes in the capital.

According to council tax records, 5,003 homes – representing one home in 22.6 – are not the main residence of the owners.

This reflects the nature of employment around Canary Wharf and the City, with many staying up in London during the week before heading to their family home in the country at weekends.

Greenwich has 573 such homes and Newham 481, less than 1% of the total housing stock available for council tax charge.

Top of the list is the City of London with around one in four of its properties a second home. Kensington and Chelsea comes second.
