Estate agency Franklyn James has long had a presence in Docklands, but the business is expanding into south-east London.

We went along to the opening of its Blackheath branch and had a chat with manager Graham Colliss.

So why did you open the branch?

We see the value in south-east London. We have a lot of properties between Blackheath and Greenwich. Geographically it works well for the City guys.

We are not targeting financial workers in particular – but a lot of the stock we have been selling has been very high calibre. We held a party as a get-together to help us meet new clients and people in the area.

Does this mean you get a lot of foreign investors buying houses?

We have an established relationship with foreign investors and domestic ones too.

People are going into property investment at the moment because interest rates are so low, so it is a good time to be getting into it.

So what sort of properties to Franklyn James deal with?

I would say we are a more of a local independent agent. We are not a faceless corporation that deals with faceless investors – we have all sorts of properties on our portfolio, from studio flats to high end family homes.

Where next for Franklyn James?

We have secured a second site in Woolwich Road, Greenwich, which is set to open in spring 2016.

We are looking at properties in Surrey Quays and Rotherhithe, but if something came up in Woolwich, we would like to have a look at that too. The SE postcodes are what we are really focusing on.
