More than 13,000 competitors are expected to take part in this year’s AJ Bell London Triathlon , so there will be more than a few road closures to accommodate them.

The Excel is accessed from the A13 but this will be busy on race days due to road closures , so make sure you plan your journey and give yourself plenty of time if you’re driving to the event.

The A13 can be reached from central London, Blackwall and Rotherhithe Tunnels, the A406 North Circular, M25 and M11. Excel parking is signed from both Gallions Reach roundabout (from the east) and Canning Town (from the west).

Roads will be closed between 5am and 7pm.

The Lower Lea Crossing, Seagull Lane, Sandstone Lane and Royal Albert Way will be closed. Alternative routes can be found along the A13 and A406 or Silverton Way and North Greenwich.

One lane will be open in both directions between Leamouth Road Roundabout and Orchard Place to allow access for the Wharfs on the south side of the river.

Road closures are in place between 5am and 6pm. Canary Wharf’s roads will be closed from 4am though.

The cycle course operates between Butcher Row and Gallions Reach Roundabout, which means it is necessary to close Limehouse Link Tunnel, Aspen Way and Lower Lea Crossing

Canary Wharf

There is a one way access to the North Colonnade on Canary Wharf. This cannot accommodate oversized vehicles.

How to get around the road closures

North to South

Those north of the closure, wishing to head south of the river should travel along the A13 and use the Rotherhithe Tunnel, London Bridge or Tower Bridge.

The Isle of Dogs

Access and egress is possible from the A13 to the Isle of Dogs by either Cotton Street and Prestons Road/Trafalgar Way or East India Dock Road and Westferry Road. The roads around the Limehouse Basin are accessible throughout the closures.

Jamestown Way, Newport Avenue, Blackwall Way, John Smith Mews, Orchard Place Access

A one way access will be in place from East India Dock Road. The diversion will take traffic down Leamouth Road, along Orchard Place, under the Lower Lea Crossing, back to Leamouth Road Roundabout to Newport Avenue. This is for local access only. Please be advised that this diversion will not allow access to The Highway.

A one way egress diversion will be in place from Newport Avenue along Aspen Way to Preston’s Road Roundabout.
