Beehives have been built in east London by teenagers working with Barnardo’s.

The trio of insect-friendly homes have been created by Tower Hamlets teenager who honed their skills at weekly sessions at The Hub, a construction skills centre run by the charity.

They devised the idea to provide a way for youngsters to enjoy outdoor learning.

Pupils from the borough and neighboring Hackney will now visit the beehives in situ in Victoria Park.

Barnardo’s youth worker Mark Lee said: “This whole initiative has been led by the young people.

“These guys get on a bus to come here every week, and they do it because they want to.

Their ideas and hard work will enrich the lives of east Londoners for years to come.”
