Announcing that planes were taking off on landing, a spokesman warned that "flights are subject to delays & cancellations, passengers are advised to check with airlines before travel".

A hole in the runway , spotted by the first flight to take off on Tuesday, May 19, led to the closure, which caused widespread travel chaos.

The airport continues to advise anyone travelling to contact their airline to check the situation before travelling.
