Tower Hamlets Council is set to appoint Will Tuckley as its permanent chief executive.
The authority issued a statement detailing a recommendation from the Appointments Sub Committee would be made at a meeting on Wednesday, August 26.
If given the nod, Will, the current chief executive of the London borough of Bexley, would take on the role and that of head of paid service for the east London borough.
The council said further information would be made available at the meeting.
Sir Eric Pickles was the motive force behind the authority’s move to fill the chief executive post.
He said the position, which had lain vacant for years, needed to be filled “as a matter of urgency” following an independent report by PwC.
Last year he suggested the appointment – alongside that of two senior officers – would improve governance at the council.
