The weather may be dull, but there was a splash of colour in the skies at the weekend as a cluster of colourful hot air balloons rose above east London.

Up to 50 balloons passed over The O2 and Canary Wharf, garnering wonderful views, as part of the Lord Mayor’s Appeal.

They set off from Burgess Park in Southwark early on Sunday morning against a backdrop of indigo skies prompting a flurry of social media activity and pictures using the hashtag #balloonregatta.

The annual event raises funds and awareness for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal and the City of London, last year raising £80,000.
