He’s been Gandalf, Magneto and Richard III, but Limehouse resident Sir Ian McKellen has taken on one of his most challenging roles yet – internet egg chef.

The Hollywood star, most famous for his roles in the X-Men (not eggs-men) and the Lord Of The Rings films, has released a video of himself cooking the “best scrambled eggs in the world”, which has gone viral on Facebook.

The four-minute video shows the 76-year-old actor cooking a recipe for eggs, passed down from his mother, which includes butter, cream and pepper. It’s perfect for breakfast and second breakfast if you happen to be a hobbit.

More than 23,000 people at the time of writing have “liked” the video on McKellen’s official Facebook page.

The video was to celebrate the success of his latest film Mr Holmes, in which McKellen plays an ageing Sherlock re-investigating his last case.
