Eric Tyler threw open the curtains at his Isle of Dogs home on Thursday morning to be greeted by a grisly sight.

The body of a man, believed to be in his 30s, lay face down on the Thames foreshore, fully clothed but plainly dead.

Low tide had left the body, in dark clothes with white shoes, on the pebbles stones outside Mr Tyler’s Burrells Wharf home.

Eric told the Daily Mirror : “I just opened the curtains and saw the police boat hovering there.

“It was obvious he was dead, he was lying face down on the bank.”

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Service said police were called to the river bank at 6.49am to reports of a body in the river.

The spokesman added: “Officers attended and recovered the body from the river. At this early stage the body is believed to be that of a man in his 30s.

“The death is currently being treated as unexplained. Inquiries continue.”
