Here is the moment a man dressed as a Marvel comicbook character was arrested following reports of a gunman in Canary Wharf .

Armed police swooped on the estate after a witness reported seeing a man walking over the footbridge towards West India Quay carrying a shotgun and a brown suitcase.

It is believed he was dressed as the Winter Solider, a character from the most recent Captain America film, who is described on as “highly skilled in both unarmed and armed hand-to-hand combat and an extremely accurate marksman”.

He may have been on his way to Brighton Film and Comic Con.

A witness told The Mirror : “Word spread around Canary Wharf of a man armed with a shotgun – your mind immediately jumps to terrorism in the current climate.

“We saw armed police gathering at the dock but they didn’t seem too concerned.

“They didn’t put up a cordon or keep people away so we assumed it wasn’t too serious.

“Then I heard them shouting ‘we’ve got him’.”

Police confirmed they arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of carrying a firearm, which is believed to be an air rifle.

A police spokesman said: “A man has been arrested in the Canary Wharf area after police were called to reports of a person in possession of a firearm.

“Police received the reports at approximately 2.15pm on Saturday, November 7.

“Police officers, including armed officers, attended the location and a 29-year-old man was arrested shortly before 3pm at West India Quay station on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

“While we await analysis of the weapon recovered, it is believed to be an air rifle.”

Canary Wharf Group later tweeted: “Reports of man with firearm at Canary Wharf are incorrect.

“Man was carrying non-lethal Airsoft hobby equipment."
