Research ship RRS Discovery has moored up in the Thames ready to host a series of events to celebrate 50 years of the Natural Environment Research Council.

During a rare visit to central London – leaving her usual base at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton – she is moored alongside HMS Belfast, until Sunday, October 11.

The chance to enter tours on board is now closed, but there will be other events involving a community of people from science, industry, government and business on the South Bank, alongside the ship.

RRS Discovery is the fourth vessel to bear the name and continues the tradition of oceanographic research at sea.
