A 79-year-old man has died after he and three children were attacked at a home in Tower Hamlets.
He was found at an address in Huddleston Close, along with a two-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl, who had been stabbed and a 13-year-old boy, who had minor injuries.
Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 6.15pm on Sunday, August 23, requesting assistance at the east London home.
When they arrived they discovered the victims and also a 31-year-old man who had self-inflicted injuries. All five were taken to an east London hospital, but the elderly man died just after 10pm.
The 31-year-old, who has been arrested on suspicion of murder, is in a stable condition and once treated he will be released from hospital and taken to a London police station for questioning.
Detective inspector Jason Prendergast, from the Homicide and Major Crime Command, said: "We are continuing our investigation and will be conducting house-to-house enquires. We appeal to anyone who may know anything about this incident to come forward and tell us what you know. Any information provided could be vital to this enquiry."
Next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination was held on Tuesday, August 25.
