A man who was caught on a headcam pushing a woman off a bike in Whitechapel has handed himself in to police.
At around 1.30pm on Tuesday, August 25, the 33-year-old man walked into Bethnal Green police station and identified himself as the pedestrian shown in CCTV attacking a cyclist in her 40s.
The man was not arrested and will be interviewed by officers from Tower Hamlets shortly, according to a police statement.
The man was seen in footage filmed on Friday, May 1, swearing at the cyclist after she asked him not to cross in front of her as she passed.
He took exception to this and chased her along the road, where he then shouted at her and pushed her off her bike.
Slater and Gordon solicitor and member of cycling charity CTC Paul Kitson told The Guardian : “Whilst the film clip is shocking this is unfortunately not an isolated incident.
“When a pedestrian deliberately pushes a cyclist off a bike this is a criminal act. The appropriate offence depends upon the extent of the injury.”
