A policeman has been rushed to hospital after he was shot in Hackney.

One man was arrested at the scene after the officer was injured during an “authorised firearms operation” carried out by the Met’s Specialist Firearms Command and Trident Area Crime Command.

According to The BBC witnesses heard gunfire after police entered the Stonebridge Park estate and saw armed officers, police dogs and helicopters.

It is not clear how many shots were fired.

The officer’s condition is stable and he is currently receiving treatment at an east London hospital.

No-one else was injured in the attack, which took place at around 12.45pm on Thursday, October 15 near Scriven Street.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward or for anyone with any information to get in touch.
