Birds and bats may soon call Island Gardens Park home.
The Friends group set up to protect the green space on the Isle of Dogs joined forces with Clean and Green to install six bird nesting boxes and four facilities for bats tucked away in tree branches.
Member Eric Pemberton said he hoped the new nature pads would encourage breeding of new species and add to the park’s colony of parakeets and three-legged fox.
He said: “There are possibly visitors out there who like feeding birds - we do get a lot of schoolchildren visiting - and it helps them to know there is wildlife and to identify them.
“Perhaps next year we may be in a position to both catalogue, identify and photograph other species of birds.”
