To many of us in east London, the word handball would normally be followed by a referee’s whistle and a free kick, but expect it to soon take on a whole new meaning.

The Copper Box Arena in Stratford is set to host an exciting tournament on August 29 and 30, with the third Copper Box International Handball Cup.

It will be the third handball tournament held at the park since the London 2012 Olympics, with eight international mixed teams competing for the title.

There will be four men’s and four women’s teams from around Europe taking part in a round-robin format on Saturday with the ranking matches and awards ceremony the following day.

There will also be a free training session for children under 11 on Saturday 29 August where they can pick up handball skills.
